We continue to improve the production of mandarins

Just because you can't buy mandarins at the moment doesn't mean that we are not focusing on them. In order to have mandarins for sale throughout the season we have to do constant work in the field, new seedlings, pruning, irrigation... the work never stops in the field.

Constant rejuvenation of our fields

Every year we work on planting new trees of all our varieties. Among the older trees we plant the new ones with the aim of always having a constant and high quality production. If a few months ago we told you that we were planting 100 new trees of clemenpons mandarins in Poste de Hierro now it is the turn of Monsalva.

On this 65 ha farm (just under 6 hectares) we grow clemenules mandarins as well as Navel Late and Salustiana oranges. This week we have planted more than 100 new trees of clemenulas and in a few days we will "double" of new Salustiana oranges.

Cut to grow

Every year, around this time, we prune our trees. Although it may seem contradictory, it is necessary to cut part of the tree to get a higher production next year. We remove old wood and let the young wood grow stronger. This way, we ensure that the tree has enough energy to produce better fruit.

In the past, the leftover firewood was burned, now, the new machines offer us the possibility of crushing it in a way that we are more responsible with the environment. In addition, this shredded firewood becomes the best organic fertilizer.

We are getting ready for the summer

Trees do not stop drinking all year round. Water optimisation is one of our main concerns. Not only because of the high cost of water, but also because of its quantity. The availability of water and the increasingly infrequent rainfall are of increasing concern.

It's time to check all drip irrigation. Make sure it is working properly, that there are no leaks and that the water reaches the roots of all the trees. Precisely, the shredded firewood also allows us to increase water savings because it makes the water is sheltered from the sun and does not evaporate so easily and increase the humidity near the trees.
