Heavy rains in the region of La Ribera

During the last few days the rains have not stopped falling in the region of La Ribera. Since last Wednesday, just before the night of the "Cremá" of the Fallas, began this constant rain, although it was not strong, if it was constant.

Those of you who follow us the social networks of Naranjas al Día know that we have been very grateful for the rain these days. After 2 years in which it had hardly rained at all, receiving an average of 20 liters per square meter per day for a week was like manna for our oranges and tangerines. A fine and constant rain that irrigated our fields with the amount of water necessary for the optimal cultivation of our citrus.

As we write these lines we observe how the strength of the rain increases. As the clouds, darker and darker, discharge with force a large amount of water. We cross our fingers that the rain remains rain, that the temperature does not drop and that those big drops do not become small daggers of hail.

We watch as nature takes its course in the hope that the fields will be able to absorb all the water so that there will be no flooding which would spoil the whole harvest.

The news from our neighbouring towns in La Ribera is not encouraging. Both to the north and south, the towns of Alzira and Carcaixent are suffering the ravages of heavy rains. In these towns nature has shown how devastating it can be: up to 150 litres per square metre in just 4 hours. More than all that has rained in our fields during a week.

Several people have had to be rescued as firefighters struggle to bail out water from some low-lying areas where the water level continues to rise and could cause major problems.

We can only observe how the rains are ending. According to the AEMT these will stop tomorrow. It will be time to see the good and bad that may have left the passage of this rainy week.
